According to customs statistics, China exported 9.51 million tonnes of steel in August, an increase of 15,000 tonnes or 0.2% year-on-year; steel imports stood at 500,000 tonnes, down 9,000 tonnes or 1.8% from a year earlier.
From January to August, China’s total steel exports reached 77.49 million tonnes, up 7.037 million tonnes or 10% year-on-year; total steel imports were 3.977 million tonnes, a decrease of 654,000 tonnes or 14.1% from the same period last year.
In August, China imported 105.225 million tonnes of iron ore, a year-on-year increase of 3.835 million tonnes or 3.8%. The average import price at customs was USD 92.7/tonne, up USD 1.3/tonne from the previous month.
From January to August, cumulative iron ore imports amounted to 801.618 million tonnes, down 12.68 million tonnes or 1.6% year-on-year. The average import price stood at USD 96/tonne, a decline of USD 16.9/tonne compared with the same period last year.
